Christ the Teacher Catholic School students are presented with diverse learning experiences including numerous “Specials” classes. Specials include music, library, art, technology, Spanish, guidance and physical education. The frequency of the classes depends on the age of the students, but all students interact with the Specials teachers on a regular basis. In addition to the traditional Specials classes, many of the Specialists also lead Upper Cluster Electives courses which allow the students to have instruction on a specific topic.
The Specials teachers begin their classes with prayer, with each subject having a specific prayer that is learned. The specials classes also strive to incorporate the Catholic faith into lessons. In music class, students prepare to fully engage in the participation of liturgical musical responses, mass parts, and hymns. In physical education, there is a strong emphasis on sportsmanship and maintaining one’s physical fitness. The guidance classes build on the idea of teamwork and cooperation, and technology reviews the concept of being safe and kind online. In art classes, students continuously surprise themselves with their skills and talents, and the librarians help the students select books that feed their desire for knowledge and their imaginations. The Spanish classes teach more than vocabulary, they introduce the students to other cultures and communities and allow students to realize that we are part of a much bigger community. Older students who are advanced in another language or are studying another language outside of school can seek special permission to study that particular language in school using an online program.
